Pictorial on how to replace your timing chain, is done!
I completed the pictorial on how to replace the timing chain on the 617 engine.
Hope this will encourage you to do it yourself! http://dieselgiant.com/mercedes_diesel_maintenance_tips1%20page%202.htm

I did the chain on my wifes 300D. Its really not any harder than anything else. Seriously. I found putting the CV axle retaining clips back on the first time more difficult.

Good posting. It's not that bad of a job if you pay attention. And good advise regarding the tensioner. All I can say is do the job right the first time, and replace the tensioner. I saw one mechanic use the old tensioner, and a few hundred miles later, the engine was on the hook. Enough said. Alan
