OM617 fuel flow rate
does anyone know how much fuel flow (in gallons per minute) a 617 turbo engine needs at it's operating pressure? i believe i read somewhere the fuel system is at about 7 psi (is this correct?) but i couldn't find much regarding flow rates...
it would be very helpful to know the maximum flow rate and pressure needed at full load as well thanks |
I'm coming up with .04 gallons/min at 25 miles/gallon (kinda typical 60 mph road mileage). I do not have the return fuel calculated in there - just what is burned. I suspect it is quite a bit more than .04 gallons.
It has been along time since I have performed calculations like this. |
Now is that the consumed amount or the total amount pumped including whats returned to the tank which is the true flow....(no I can't even quess how much that is.)
|
well what i really need to know (i think) is the total amount pumped through the ip.. so that would include consumed fuel plus the excess fuel going straight back through the injector returns...
i'm looking for this info because i need to add a valve in line (vegetable oil application) and i am trying to figure out if it will be restrictive or not... i suppose someone out there must know the flow rate info for these engines i hope... |
Valve as in electric solaniod? The one that came with mine was 3/8ths and it works great, as long as I can keep fat out of the filter.
|
yes, i mean an electric solenoid...
unfortunately the fitting size won't tell me much about internal flow rates of your valve... anyway, i have a graph of the flow rates vs. pressure for my valve, what i need is info regarding the flow rate of the mercedes fuel system... thanks |
Based on viewing the flow while it is running on diesel purge....I'd say the max return flow would be no more than 4-5 gallons per minute....and thats probably a high estimate.
|
How about disconnect the return line, put it into a big container and drive for a minute, then measure? From what I've read, in a diesel, fuel returned is in the cicinity of 10 to 20 times fuel consumed.
|
That'd be roughly a gallon a minute or so.....it seems like its more than that though....especially at higher rpms....but I am not sure now.
|
thanks for the suggestions...
i guess it will come down to some hands-on experimentation now where did i put my gallon sized graduated cylinder ? |
