Shell Rotella-T 15w40 year round, and every 3000 to 3500k usually.... the 83 went to 3800 on the last change, and a Blackstone analysis showed perfect....so I guess even to 4000 is ok.....

Blackstone analysis

What is a blackstone analysis?

pawoSD 10-27-2005 03:04 AM

They test your oil to check the condition of your engine. You send in a sample that you collect when draining during an oil change. It will give all the wear metal levels and the % of water/coolant/fuel etc in the oil and for $10 extra they will test how many additives/what level remains.

Delo 400 multigrade on a 3,333 mile interval (basically three times per 10,000 miles.)

In a few newer vehicles around here I stray from that. My pickup is a Ford with a 4.6 V8 and due to several valid reasons, requires lighter oil. I use Mobil 5000 and change it every 3,333.

My wifes Mini Cooper requires 5W30 synthetic, so it gets Mobil One on a 10,000 mile schedule.

Have a great day,

Whatever namebrand diesel spec oil on sale at 3000 intervals. Right now I have lots of rotella 15-40. I may get some synthectic Truck & SUV Mobil or Rotella Synth at Wally world for the winter months.

Delo 400 15 w40 + filter every 3000

Deni 10-27-2005 10:53 AM

Sell helix super 15w 40. Change the oil every 4 months (around 5000km).

Glinko 10-27-2005 11:02 AM

Castrol Tech-something or other. Comes in a big white container with a red cap.

15w-40, smells kind of grody, container says it's made especially for diesel engines.

superbeast1098 10-27-2005 12:00 PM

I usually use Delo 400...... About every 3500 miles......

Castrol now has a Diesel version of their GTX oil.... On the bottle it will have Castrol GTX Diesel...... I might ust that next oil change to see how it is...

flame suit on

Funny how people will complain about others not using the search function on something that has been discussed to death like ENGINE OIL but then it seems those same people will go ahead and discuss it again anyway. You're fighting the fire while feeding the flame here folks. Engine oil does not need to be discussed any more. Nothing has changed in the engine oil world- no new developments- since the last massive oil thread. Everybody knows the moly-rich Dino for the summer/synthetic for the winter/change-it-hot-and- change-it-often routine.
I'm just pointing something out, so do not take it the wrong way.

search function

DD is right, most topics like engine oil have been discussed at length a million times :rolleyes3 :rolleyes3 but what about 1,000,001?

Trouble with searching a topic is knowing how to search properly. Try searching "oil analysis" or "favorite oil" or "best oil" and you will get a few really good threads and a bunch of semi-relevant threads. Way more information there than here...

Search function works well if you take the time to play with it.

oh yeah, I use Rotella T 15-40W, change every 3,300 miles. Easy to keep track of changes: 190K, 193,300, 196,600, then 200K

pdxwaker 10-27-2005 03:54 PM

I use canola that has been used to fry elephant ears. Changed every ~350 miles or so ;-)

Gurkha 10-27-2005 07:17 PM

Delo 400 or Delvac Super every 3500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.
