Red face 0-60 in 10 minutes...sheesh

I just got my car a year ago. It's great, runs like a tank, weighs as much, and is a good car in general, but it's got 250,000 miles on it. That's on the engine and all... I know it's never going to have a quick acceleration time, but is there anything I can do to help it out some? Anything at all??? I've tried all the fuel additives that you can get at any parts store, I want specific engine reapirs on commonly worn things or whatever anyone knows. Please. thanks....

*side note- an older guy who knows somewhat of what he was saying told me that the lines of ball and joints from the pedal to the actual fuel line can get worn and cause the fuel line to "get the message to 'go' a little slower than normal" i thought that was obvious when i looked at the engine (there's a big puzzle of connecting rods and joints that sticks up over everything), but i'm 20 and a girl and have no idea what i would need to tell a mechanic in order to have this problem taken care of. please help

You need to check the fuel filters...throtle linkkage adjustments, not to mention valve adjustments and checking for timing chain stretch... at 250K miles you might have compression issues but its more likely than not that you have no problems there...Particularly if it starts easily when cold.

Clogged ADLA line, perhaps? (Hint: search for that. Common problem.)

alda/ banjo bolt/ fuel filters/ fuel purge/ grease adjust the impressive tangled web of throttle linkage.

these things can be done by yourself (researching through threads with the search function) or performed by a grey haired technician at your local import auto specialist, maybe.

Do all the simple stuff before you pay a mechanic to do the big stuff...you may find your problem is fixed in just a little bit of your time.

You should put you car in your Sig file...so it displays without having to look up your profile.

The basic stuff really is basic and its not as scary as it first seems. Just do some research and read up on the issue very carefully and odds are you'll realize its not so daunting a task as it first appeared. Don't let those mechanics work you over on something that's a quick and easy fix. There are a lot of honest ones but just as many crooks to balance it out. Best of luck.
