Need info on replacements for two bad wires, 1982 300D

Hi, everyone.

I have two shorted wires I need to replace on my 300D:

The wire to the #1 glow plug.

The wire to the temperature switch near the thermostat.

Does anybody know the guage and temperature rating of each wire? Once I know, I'll shoot up to the hardware store.

Thanks,

Pete.

While I can understand a request for electrical temperature, and based around wire guage, somehow I have doubt about a conclusive answer to your question!

Can you put in more simple terms what you are experiencing?

I tested the resistance in the wires to my glow plugs. The wire going to my #1 glowplug is bad.

I recently inspected the wire going to the temperature switch near the thermostat. It was torn up and taped in several places. I tested for resistance, and was not surprised to find that it was bad as well.

So, I need to replace these two wires. I picked up some 12 guage, 600volt capacity wire from Lowe's but I don't know if this is okay (I think it's rated at 14 amps). I'm not sure what specific type of wire I'm supposed to get for both shorts.

Thanks,

Pete.

Well I went ahead and used the wire from Lowe's

The old one was scored all the way from the plug to about 1/2 inch before the relay plug. I clipped the wire where the good 1/2 inch of the wire started and used a butt connection with the new wire. It was a tight fit in the housing of the relay plug, but it fit and i was able to snap the cover of the plug back on.

I turned the ignition....that's the most glorious little yellow light I've seen in a dashboard ever.

I tested it out this morning when it got down into the mid-40s. She fired right up with no hesitation and no pushing the pedal down required.

....now if I could just get my heater and ac to blow air...
