300d injectors
Hi.
I own a high mileage '77 300D which was giving me cold starting problems. The engine had to be cranked over and over until it fired. I got the injectors rebuilt and put them in with new heat shields. Now the car starts from cold with a couple of turns of the engine, however, I get huge clouds of white smoke until the vehicle is driven. Any ideas why the car would start better, but smoke a lot more than before I changed the injectors? Thanks. |
I had hard starting with my '77 300D until I got the glow plug upgrade from DieselGiant and now it starts faster. I still have smoke but I need to check my injectors, I suspect bad spray pattern.

Thanks. Looked on Dieselgiant website. I guess you mean the glowplug upgrade from filament type to pencil type. If so, how easy is the upgrade?

Very easy, just like changing GP's but you replace the fuse (two screws) and the wiggly wire also. I changed the value of the temp sensor to get the glow plug light to turn off quicker because the relay doesn't know you have changed the glowplugs and continues to burn them just like your old ones at 45 sec when the engine is cold. Mine now lights for 6 sec when the engine is cold. If you want to know what I did just pm me. I am still testing this sensor conversion out to see if it works in very cold weather before I post my findings. |
i am betting
that your glow plugs arent working right. get them working right before deciding to change to the new type. the old type works pretty well when it is all correct.

Well my GP's did work correctly but were very slow and didn't seem to have the heat of my new ones plus if one fails of my new GPs, the car will still start. This caused problems in the past when one shorted out on my wife and she was one hour away. I like the comfort of not worring about that so much I pulled out perfectly good plugs and replaced them.
