Can an old second hand Turbo affect performance...?
I've just replaced my faulty turbo with a secondhand one from an accident damaged car but am feeling that there is an issue with performance.. any thoughts? (E220CDI-2001)

If the turbo doesn't spin freely, it will make the pedal feel stiff at low RPM's. Must be bad for MPG's.

Muggins here did the diagnostics.... :-(
Well visually the second hand turbo is rusty on the outside. As for performance, it seems to be ok. On accellerating the uptake is more sluggish than before and for some reason the engine sounds raspy - almost as if there is no oil in the engine and the cam was running dry. Then as the gearbox shifts to 2nd gear (auto g/box) the engines smoothes out and sounds fine...The raspy sound def seems to be coming from the engine bay and not the g/box.... Am confused!!!
