Would this be a sin?, changing out the orange carpet in my 300D
1982 300D
Okay, I know it's the original carpet and it's in good condition, but orange? Would it affect the value of my car I took all this orange carpeting out and put in something a little less...ugly? Actually, I guess it's not that bad (for being orange carpet), but seems like it could look a lot nicer if it was a little less citrus. Pete. |

I vote for "tear it out and replace it."
If you do a good job, and have good taste in color, I don't see how it would affect the market value.

I find a set for a W116 is about $700........needless to say I will live with some sun fading for a while yet. If you have a friend who can do edge binding and got bulk automotive carpet ( avoid house carpet or jute backed....it will reak forever when it gets damp)

Was the carpet originally orange? Or is it a burgandy that has faded?
If it's a faded color, maybe a re-dye to the original shade? http://vinylpro.safeshopper.com/51/602.htm?368

I vote remove anything orange from your car, except the glow plug indicator light.
GAHH is the best for interiors. World UPH is very good and entirely suitable for almost all cars. They have a website that lists prices. Also Millers MBZ in Fountain Valley, Ca. Expect to pay anywhere from $600 - $1400, depending on who you call and what quality you want. There are ways to dye things, I have no experience with those though.

I'll post a picture of the interior after I get back from a photo-shoot in Oregon next week.
I'm taking pics of a sort of Rage Against the Machine/Hip hop band. (I finally found an excuse to use that new Smily). |

I vote to keep it. You don't see many cars with orange interiors today. It seems like all new cars have boring gray interiors. In fact, how many 1982 300Ds had orange interiors? I doubt there were many. It's a rarity, leave it alone, and use the money to fix something mechanical.

I want a swamp-green one with orange interior!
That spray stuff is a little like paint. I colored the back shelf black, and it seemed to come out a little dry and stiff. |
