Does anybody know if the oil cooler from a W116 is interchangeable with a W126 cooler? (both 617 turbo's)
Part numbers are different, but they look alot alike...I have not had them sitting next to each other yet, so I don't know 100% I am hoping someone happens to know.
Thanks!
-Larry

I don't know, but if the connections are located in the same area and they look the same, it should work. If the radiators are different, they might have different brackets that mount the cooler to the radiator. I changed the lower oil cooler line on my car this weekend, you will need a 24mm box wrench or an adjustable wrench to loosen the connections at the cooler and a 10mm socket to get the mounting brackets loose.

My Answer Would Be...Uh, NO...

The W116, and W126 have radically different radiators. In fact, I remember in a previous thread, Steve Brotherton stated: "First, the 116 chassis radiator is originally brass and bears no more resemblance to an '81 (W126) than to a Ford."...

I would seriously doubt that it would fit. Why not get the right one? You can get a quote from PartsShop on new, aftermarket, and sometimes even used.

Thank you to all!

Turns out that when a friend of mine asked me to see if I can find an oil cooler for a SD, I thought of W126's...well, maybe Mercury is retrograde or something, because it was for a W116 after all, and I have what he needs. Sorry to bother all of you, but thanks anyway!
