idle speed

My 83 300 D turbo dash tach is at approx 600 at idle. Is that too low?

Does it idle smoothly? My 300D idles smoothly at about 550-575. I don't know what the spec is, but I suspect we are on the low end of the range.

according to the sticker in my engine compartment idle sould be 750 +/- 100. (or was it +/- 50?---i think it was 100)

I wonder about oil flow at low rpm. Some motorcycle engines keep idle rpms high to circulate oil to the cams. Unless someone knows for sure I would keep rpms at spec even if it idles smoothly lower.
