(safe is preferred) Plus the fact I could work on it for him is another benefit. He'd also likely store it in the winter when he goes back to school (UM) so it would keep a 240 off the streets in the winter, very good thing! |

Looks like I'm driving the loaner for at least 5 days, if they're holding my car through the weekend.
AHHHHHHHH I never driven anything like the c240 before, now it feels like I'm going to be pouring tons of $$$ to get that feeling back haha. I've been riding this car so hard its so much fun. I'm thinking intake, exhaust, keyless entry will be the first 3 upgrades. Ok i'll post once my car's back. |

Is that diff still bothering you?
I can tell you that a whine in the differential is often the result of wear in the bearings and the gears stop meshing where they are supposed to. Any attempts in repairing a diff need to be done by someone experienced in the torque requirements of the nuts that hold the assy and seals in place. Overtorquing the nut will make the gears start whining baldy soon after the work is performed. I watched the shimming and torquing of a differential by a well respected German mechanic that has decades of experience. I can tell you that its not a job for the weak and timid! I'd rather hope to find a good used one instead of a repair. There are clusters available though, someone in FL suggest a place that sells them. Its the labor that has to be right to install them that I am worried about. The 124 diff is more difficult to R&R than the 123 but if my '87 were making lots of noise I'd be off looking for a low mileage wreck. Unfortunately there are few of them around when you want or need one. |
