well I'll post what happens when the time comes!

Ah yes, I do work like that sometimes, but I don't charge quite that much :D

I do charge just a tad under (about 30% less) what a "professional" in the field would charge though....makes me competitive.

I like doing computer work, the vast majority of the time its very enjoyable.

I am trying to coax my friend into getting a 240d auto for himself in the summer, with intensions that I service it for him for pay. :D (he's not into the wrenching thing) I told him to get a 240d because he doesn't want a manual, he doesn't want a fast car (no need) and wants something simple and cheap thats not a kia. (safe is preferred) Plus the fact I could work on it for him is another benefit. He'd also likely store it in the winter when he goes back to school (UM) so it would keep a 240 off the streets in the winter, very good thing!

Yeah I certainly know the fam. mechanic isn't the guy to go to for my car. Theres this shop out in el cajon that deal with diesel mercedes exclusively I'll hit them up sometime and post the experience.

Just ignore him. His sig tells you everything you need to know.

The family mechanic can probably do things like brakes, shocks, suspension components, and oil changes. The procedures differ from American vehicles but are not all that complicated. A factory service manual would be invaluable for both you and the family mechanic.

With regard to specific repair of the the 603 engine, this must definitely be left to someone with knowledge. The local mechanic probably would defer to a more knowledgeable technician anyway.

Looks like I'm driving the loaner for at least 5 days, if they're holding my car through the weekend.

AHHHHHHHH I never driven anything like the c240 before, now it feels like I'm going to be pouring tons of $$$ to get that feeling back haha. I've been riding this car so hard its so much fun.

I'm thinking intake, exhaust, keyless entry will be the first 3 upgrades.

Ok i'll post once my car's back.

I've asked this question about rear-end howl in the tech forum months ago and got several responses from other 124 owners with the same symptom, but nobody has any answers! It is annoying, however, it only happens from 50 mph and up. It will go away around 60, but if you apply throttle from 60, the howl comes in and will increase in sound the more you put your foot into the pedal and decrease upon letting off the pedal!

If anyone out there knows what I'm talking about, and knows what causes this, I would greatly appreciate your attention........BB

Is that diff still bothering you?
I can tell you that a whine in the differential is often the result of wear in the bearings and the gears stop meshing where they are supposed to.
Any attempts in repairing a diff need to be done by someone experienced in the torque requirements of the nuts that hold the assy and seals in place. Overtorquing the nut will make the gears start whining baldy soon after the work is performed. I watched the shimming and torquing of a differential by a well respected German mechanic that has decades of experience. I can tell you that its not a job for the weak and timid! I'd rather hope to find a good used one instead of a repair. There are clusters available though, someone in FL suggest a place that sells them. Its the labor that has to be right to install them that I am worried about.
The 124 diff is more difficult to R&R than the 123 but if my '87 were making lots of noise I'd be off looking for a low mileage wreck. Unfortunately there are few of them around when you want or need one.

It's finally done.

It sort of felt like I've been having an affair with the loaner car haha=P

The difference is huge!!!!!!

Is it just me or is the turbo really really small? or is that not the turbo i'm looking at and thats just a pipe?

Sort of depends what you're looking at and your frame of reference. The turbo on my VW makes the one in my 300d look huge. The generator at work has a turbo that makes the 300d's turbo look tiny. But then there is always the pipe issue:rolleyes: Is one end of this pipe on fire with the other end attached to your lips? :D You did say you were just back from the dealer no?
