How much $$, and in what shape is the rest of the car? These cars are not expensive, and are fairly plentiful, so don't feel compelled to buy the first one you see (especially if it needs lots of work).
peace, sam

Not knowing anything about the rest of the car I would figure $500 for a rebuilt turbo. A used one will be cheaper of course. Give us more details and info please!
Why does the car need a new turbo?

The turbo is known bad? Everyone sees turbo and either thinks "FAST!" or when the car is not running/starting right..."broken turbo"...
As state elsewhere on the forum...actually one of the more reliable pieces of the properly build turbodiesel engine. Get back to us with whatcha know... |

the owner said she runs but without the turbo decent accelaeration isnt had it will spool up she said but longer than it should i have some experince working with turbo's .. ( mitsu turbo's) and i know a load of people that work with them but not on the diesel scale . but hey its a diesel not a ferarri. here are the pics that i got from the owner
she said the interior is in really great shape for its age.. which ill belive when i see.. so what do you think is a good price for this. she is going to let me pay her monthly for it i can pull in 500 a month working at mcdonalds ( hate that place but if it means getting a diesel ill work hard) |

Before you shell out for a turbo - check the boost lines, etc. To many times we go to the most $$ item.

This sort of ends this thread but....how many people have run across 240 or 300 with a bad turbo? I know they exist but myself have not had that pleasure.

A 'lesser' specimen just sold for $1600
Market Values Bigger photos of all areas is a big help. People often have widely differing scales of judgement. Some people think that; "great condition for it's age" is a good way to describe a quite poor condition. I think your payment plan might work out for you. Better to get in hock for awhile, for something worthwhile and condemn yourself to a short sentence under the Golden Arches, than to spend the time watching TV or playing video games. Good luck! |

Riddle me, these questions three:
1. Mileage 2. Asking price 3. How she knows the turbo is bad (IE, mechanic told her, she's guessing, her brother 'who knows a bit about cars' told her, etc.) 4. Any recent work done on it? Anyway, the tiny pictures show that the body is in good shape, and its clean, which can be a good sign, but of course is only part of the picture. The turbo thing is a big question mark, there are a lot of things that can go wrong that might make it seem like the turbo is bad, but is actually a different problem. Some are cheap and easy to fix, some very frustrating and expensive. You should find out how she knows. Check about any recently done work. There are some things (like suspension and transmission rebuilds) that are really expensive to do, but if they've been done in the last several years will be ready to go for hundreds of thousands of miles. For instance, my 2400$ wagon had an all-new front suspension and a recently rebuilt transmission, which means I can forget about those items for quite a while, which is a good piece of mind. Don't worry if this one slips through your fingers, remember that there are lots of possibilities for these cars out there, and you don't need to take the first one that you see. Also, you may consider getting a small loan to help pay for the car. Have a respectable family member co-sign a personal loan (it wouldn't be considered an 'auto loan' in this case), then choose a payment amount and term (like 200$ a month for 18 months or something), and then use that to buy the car. If you make your payments, in the end you'll end up with some good credit, and you'll have a car through the whole time. If you go that route, get a little more than the cost of the car, so you can afford maintainence like brake pads, tires, and fluids that almost always needs to be done early on. Make absolutely sure you can make the payments, too! Good credit is great, but bad credit is worse than no credit. peace, sam

Just because it has no power doesn't mean the turbo is bad. it could be many things but based on the info you have told us it is inconclusive at this point.
However the car seems to be in good shape, if the rest of the car is as nice as those pics I wouldn't have a problem paying $2,500 for it.
