I have minimal welding experience and built one for my 84 300sd almost completely unsupervised. you could probably bring some measurements into a shop and have it done cheaper than buying a pre made.
The bumper comes off real easy. You can hold a 1/4 thick steel plate up to the holes and trace where your holes should go. Put a plate under each bumper mount with a few inches of material hanging out the bottom. You can then weld a square crossbar between the two and weld a 1 1/4 or 2" reciever onto this. If you are thinking about making one you can drop me a line and I will send you a picture for ideas. Eric Z
