I bet you'd saturate the paper and choke off any airflow first.

You will drown the brakes, though, and even with discs it take a while to get them back!
every vehicle that has ever been hydrolocked has been so irregardless of a filter beign in the way.....

Yeah I noticed the incredibly weak brakes for the first 5 seconds of braking or so, but they came right back. I was only going about 27mph when I began to slow down, so its not like I needed tons of brakes anyways. By the next stopsign they worked normally again.

Off topic, but...

Bone, I recommend the Blizzaks. Have run them 2 winters now and the 560 just chugs right along. Only one time did the rear tires break loose on me and that was my doing (too much throttle). I've said this before, they're like riding on suction cups. The big body Benz literally sticks to the road.

They do handle squirrely on warm dry pavement though, or dry grooved pavement, or grated bridge roadbeds. Probably because they grip so well.

If your oil ever turns a light brown, milky color then you have added some water to it. On the PM's at work we have dehydrators that run 24/7 on the oil bowsers to reduce the amount of water in the oil. We try to go a long time between changes because it takes around 8k gallons of Mobil PM oil. The water is really hard on the bearings.

the saab

99s used to have an air intake snout that drooped down toward the bottom of the engine compartment. if you ran into standing water it would suck it up and bend a rod instantaniously. a long time saab mechanic i knew always used to take them off and discard them the first time he worked on a car that still had one. it was held on by a clamp.

so i dont think the air filter will stop water.

Ford taurus' and mercury unables also have this problem, I knew someone who bought an unable with 46k on it for a few thousand because the person had gone through standing water and blown the engine from sucking in water.

Our van's air intake is weird....its inside the left front area, but is pretty much completely shielded from taking in water, and the air tube travels up and across from the air box/filter box, so its probably pretty resilient to sucking in water, perhaps even moreso than the SD's......not sure on that one though. I want to snorkel mine. (kidding)

Bone

I have Blizzaks for the 202 and both 126s - the cars I usually drive in the winter. This year I'll also try the 163, but with the all-year tires on it now (I have way too many sets of spare / snow tires as it is now)

Buy them for all four corners. I grew up in Chi-town, but always used snows on the drive wheels only. After buying my first Benz and finding this site, I read quite a bit about using 4 snows, so I listened and learned. Let me tell you, the Blizzaks are rated #1 by me.

I have avoided accidents aplenty with them; there's quite a few "licensed" drivers out there that just don't get it in the snow. Even my wife starts bugging me about this time of the year to get them on "her" car, the 202. She loves them too.

wATER IN ENGINE

I dose'nt take much water to destroy the 617 engine, my 300SD had a new mb engine at 68,000 miles because the owner was jet washing under the front grill with the engine running, he must have got water in the plastic snorkel (which I think is to low on the 126).

I still have the paperwork for this, good thing its not a 57 chebby where the owners get out of shape if the engine & body numbers dont match.
