Oil level sensor leaking- replace the whole sensor?
I found the leak! I cleaned up my whole oil pan and found that the drip was coming from the oil level sensor. At least, I believe it is the oil level sensor. It is bolted on to the driver's side of the oil pan, the portion that sticks into the pan is a cylindrical shape. The leak was not coming from the o-ring that seals the aluminum body to the pan though, it was leaking from the small sensor that goes through the aluminum body. I tried to take the sensor out of the aluminum body but it wasn't coming easy and I didn't want to break it. My question is this; is there a way to remove the sensor from the body and get a new seal/sensor or do I have to buy the entire assembly with the sensor already in the aluminum body?
This is on my 87 300SDL with 167k miles. :sword2: |
Anyone?

Ok, in that case, is anyone selling an oil level sensor for an 87 300SDL?
One that doesn't leak. Thanks! :rifle: |
Mmm I could swear just the seal is available.
I just checked, it's about $1.50 for the pair... I'd order some other stuff so you're not paying $6-7 to ship ~$2 in stuff. |

Hrm... I'm curious if this is where my oil leak could be at also. The light comes on at times for low oil... so I pull over paranoid and it's still full.

Well as long as it eliminates the oil leak I'll be a happy camper.

I just tried to take the sensor out of the body but all I managed to do was break the sensor and I didn't even get it out. I guess buying a whole new assembly was the only option.

The new sensor unit didn't come with a large o-ring, go figure. :rifle: So I ordered one for $.75, good thing that didn't come with the assembly, wouldn't want to break the bank. I should know tomorrow if it's still leaking.

I can't believe it didn't come with the o-ring. That's pathetic.
