diesel the turbocharged engines have the same comp ratio as non.

the only way a 240 shoould be getting 15 is if the fuel timing is way off or a fuel leak or bad odo. or a seriously lot of idling and stop and go traffic. i would bet on the odo. if it runs and starts good.

much of the fuel economy that might be expected in the smaller engined 240 is eaten up by the relatively low geared rear end. at 3.69 the engine turns much faster than the turbo cars and pumps much more air through it as a result. we have had long discussions here about turbo vs non turbo effeciency, but it is all wrapped around the gear ratios. since the turbo cars have higher gears and the motor turns less rpm on the highway their more fuel consumption is mostly compensated for. if carrying the same gear ratios the non turbo motor will win on economy every time.

My 300D seems to get some boost whenever it's over 2000 rpm, which is most of the time.

The odometer has stopped so I can only guess now, but I would say its still doing pretty good. It seems to use alot more fuel when run almost flat out with the A/C on (80-90 mph).
Are you sure you're getting 30mpg in rush hour traffic? That sounds kinda optimistic
