300TD restoration or how to spend a pile of money

Well I've started the ground up restoration of my 300TD, never been out of SC, Euro delivery '82.. So far I've replaced all the rear suspension items: rubber, mounts, flex disks, rear wheel bearings, driveshaft bearing and mount, seals, axles, bla bla bla... Next weekend I'll be rebuilding the brake calipers and flushing the hydraulic suspension.... I would never have started this madness if I found rust on this car...There is no rust or bondo on this future garage queen...

YOu may want to retink having those cement blocks you got under there....I've had them shatter holding up a lighter car than your 300TD...

Yes you are right, cinderblocks are death traps. I used them in conjunction with jacks and spare tires. I never had the full weight supported by blocks.

Trust me I've used them for nearly 30 years...with the holes vertical so its stronger..and last year for the first time had not one but two ( I only had two under it) shatter under a ferrari 308GTS I was working on....had a stack of wood backing them up fortunately.....will never use them again period.

So, how about a parts list... with part numbers if you have them.

I'm doing almost the same "restoration" only mine does have some rust, and currently a missing quarter panel. I've read various threads describing replacing this bushing and that, but I don't recall seeing a full list.

Keep us posted on the progess.

I think investing in a pair or 6k lb jack stands would be alot better than the cynder blocks and wood scraps. Its a small price to pay for not dying by your car falling on you. I dont care how many times or "years" people have used them, its dangerous and stupid.
