See... it's like an illness and seems to be contagious...

There is a guy building a full kit right now (should be ready shortly) His kit is going to be in the 3k range but includes everything you need to put the EM617 into a late model rover (up to the 99 D1) and bolt it to your existing trans. Will even correct the shift points. I'm seriously considering it for my 96 and have been talking to him back and forth on it. he's only making 4 kits to start, 2 for the D1's and 2 for older rovers.

You can pick up the engines cheap enough... And ,in my case, free yourself from that crap lucas garbage under the current hood. Case in point, I need a simple TPS installed. It requires that you plug the truck into the landrover testbook to set it. Parts 130 bucks, Dealer wants 600 bucks to fix it. Local rover guy quoted me 400... It's 2 screws and a plug to remove it and replace, literally takes 2 minutes... On petrol engine that already has almost 200k on it... by my math, it would be cheaper to just do the conversion and have something solid and simple to work on rather than start dumping money on all the computer sensors that are bound to be ready to fail at any time.

I really like the trucks, I just hate the leash of being tied to a computer that cost 10k to buy. Does not leave you with that warm fuzzy feeling when you live out in the middle of nowhere.

I loved my Disco 1. Personally, I don't have any desire to put a 617 in a LR, can get more power out of a VW Tdi with far less weight and length, and better fuel mileage. The truck is lethargic enough with its 188hp aluminum V-8. I'd certainly consider a 602 or OM605 though.
