Drivers side power seat ? in a 84 300SD - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

The seat will only work in the bottom switch. Seat forward,back etc. The reclinining switch does not work. Is this an easy fix? It also has a 1 and 2 button next to the switches. What are these for?

It's likely your switch contacts are dirty. Do a search on cleaning seat switch, and you may be able to get away with spraying it with radio contact cleaner. I did a post on how-to Power Seat Switch Cleaning
The 1 and 2 buttons are to store seat forward/backward and headrest positions, explained in your owners manual (if you have one). Set the seat up, press the green button, then 1 (or 2) within 3 seconds (or is that press 1, then green...sorry, I forget, and my manuals outside).

that is correct the seat switch has flash burns and wont let it contact the inside contacts.I dont know if it will help to spray cleaner in it.I usally take it apart and clean the spots up.but it is a proses.when you take it apart you will have springs and small balls flying at you.if you deside to clean it,be patient and take it appart slow and what out where everything goes

donbryce's repair thread is very good. It's an easy job - the only thing I would add is do the job on a tray or something with lip edges so when all the little bits pop out they stay relatively where you can see them.

Cleaning out the switch makes an incredable difference.

Good show and you need to have steady hands,cause having all the balls on the spings get a bit shakey

Yes, steady hands are needed. That's why tweezers work best to place things back in. The little contact bars fall right into place. A dab of grease on the end of the spring will hold the ball in place, but you need to use a slow, careful motion putting the cover back on, at least until the balls are 'captured', then it snaps in nicely. I couldn't believe the price some of these get used on EBay, let alone new.

Everyone has really covered it nicely. They tray is an excellent idea. I used dielectric grease rather than regular grease. Just the electrical thing. I did buy one on eBay for a reasonable price as a spare. Let us know how it goes.
