16.5 gallons to fill my W123 85 300D--is someone tampering with the Pump?
I went to a station in S Jersey and the pump read 16.5 gallons. True my tank was close to bonedry, but I never recall seeing 16.5 gallons before on the pump to fill my 85 300D, unless my new Rear Coil Springs have increased my Tank Capacity......
WHAT SHOULD I DO, FINK on them? I'm pretty peaceful and easygoing, an extra gallon or $2.30 doesnt faze me--but what about those huge trucks running 50 to 70 gallon tanks!! They must make about $500 bucks a day in false charges |

Most I've ever filled up on my 85 300D is 19 some gallons... reserve light was on so I guess that sounds about right.

When my reserve light comes on I'm heading for the nearest station. I usually put in 13 and a skosh. I know they say that there should be two gallons left when the light comes on but I don't trust how far I can push it. At least my Harley I can just open it up and look in.

Something must be wrong with my gage or the reserve light. The next time the light comes on I'm going to either use an Oklahoma credit card to try and syphon the remaining fuel out or I'm going under the car and pull the hose off and drain it so I can see how much fuel is left in there when the light comes on.

I believe that most 123 300Ds have a 21.1 gallon tank.

18.5 gallons
Owner's manual says 18.5 gallons.
2-3 gallons left when the light comes on sounds about right. --Hugh

So the wagons hold less fuel than the sedans? Weird.

Should be a 21.1 gallon tank, which includes a 2.1 gallon reserve. That is how me 83 300D is. I've never put more than 17 in before though.

The 300D tank is a few gallons larger than the 240D tank. The TD wagons have a 18.5 gallon tank, Most wagon tanks are dented from someone's Baja episodes so capacity might be down to 17 gallons... In my wagon I've pushed it to 420 miles between fill-ups, my old sedan would take me to 510 miles before I'd start to look for fuel...
