'67 200SD @ craigslist

Can anyone here give me a few pros and cons about owning and operating a fintail diesel? My 240D drives so nice that I'm starting to feel sad about junking it soon (severe frame rot ), and I kinda got my heart set on aqcuiring one of these as a weekend driver.

Yeah, I caught that too. Even I know enough about these cars to realize that was a goof.

That 67' 200D is the precursor to the stroke 8's (W114/115), definately not an S-class, though it looks very similar to the W111 S-classes from 1959 to 1971 (coupe and convertible models made until 71, sedan production stopped in 1968, sedan production overlapped with W108/109 S-classes from 1965 to 1968). S200? 200SD? That's bad when you don't know what you're selling. (I don't know what it is, just give me my money!)

It sure looks nice, I wonder if getting parts would be a PITA.

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

Are you the same MichiganDon who has the Travco diesel conversion? If so, I'm lusting after your vehicle. Been looking for a Travco diesel conversion for a while. I almost bought an Airstream 5.9 Cummins conversion from Joe Pospisil.

That would be I. Small world, isn't it? My new project is putting the engine out of the 240D into my M38a1 Jeep. Jims Land Rover is the inspiration for that one.

Good. I followed your thread over at Turbodieselregister.
Question: I'm now thinking that I want a Travco bigger than a 270 that I'd think of converting to a 5.9 Cummins. How do you think it would work in a 320? I think I read somewhere that the 518 (618?) transmissionn is only rated up to 14k lbs so I think a different transmission would be necessary on a 320.

I'd LOVE to see someone put a Cummins in a 320! I would think that a later inline-pump 12-valve would be better in that particualr coach than the 1st gen rotary-pumper that I used. Dunno why everyone is so down on the 518/47RE/RH trannys. I mean, if the orignal 727 behind the 440 is up to the job, it's granddaughter oughtta work just as well. You could use an Allison in its place, however there's be a lot more work involved in the installation. I would go to ATT or DTS and have them build me a bomb-proof unit if I had the money to spend and wanted to make damn sure it was reliable.

Good point. I've got a line on a 320 in New Mexico at the moment but it only has 40k on the 440 so it could have a long life ahead of it before a conversion becomes necessary.

Thanks. I wouldn't have known the difference. That's why I came here and asked.

Goes both ways.

Everytime I place an online ad and I get some foreigner talking about how their "client" is interested in my "item", it's blatantly obvious that they don't know or care what it is that I'm selling. Just please (or is it "pls"? ) fall for my phony check scam and wire my money back to me before your bank finds out it not real? Dunno whos dumber, the people who fall for that or the ones who insitgate it.

Getting back on topic, I just found another one of these: http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/7/9/79974879.htm
Wish there was more pics/info on this one. Think I still like the green one better.
