There's a VERY clean 93 300TE (white/blue) for sale here in Cincy with 106k on it. I SERIOUSLY considered buying that car until Aaron found me a black 92 300TE.

It's on ebay right now with a buy it now of 7900, which is way too high.
I suspect the reserve is more like $5k.

It didn't make reserve last week, and ends today. Take a look. I've inspected this car personally and thought it was one of the cleanest I have seen in years (adult driven, no evidence of kids/messes). I also know where the car was maintained (Precision Motorcars, Cincy).

Carefull!!! Read over in the tech forum about the early 4 matics. I wouldn't touch one with a 10ft pole.

If you have to have a 4 matic wagon I'd think 2000+ E320. The later 4 matics are better.

Well it looks like I'll have to reveal my ignorance here. I thought 4matic referred to automatic 4 wheel drive. Does 4matic actually refer to the transmission?

After doing some searching it seems that 4matic does refer to the 4WD. The eBay auction says that this 300TE is 2WD, is that incorrect? Doesn't matter too much, I'm not into buying cars at the drop of the hat so I probably won't get this one.

I called the people selling it and they said it is in fact not a 4matic. It's from Texas (no rust anywhere) and is immaculate with all dealer service records. Comes with a one year unlimited mileage warranty on the entire vehicle. However the price is $7900, seems a bit steep but the real question is can you find one this nice for less money? KBB private party is $7000.

Not all W124's were 4matic. I don't know enough about the market for these to say whether $7,900 is fair or not. But it doesn't seem to high.

Well it looks like this will be mine soon. Not a diesel but I'd rather deal with a gas engine than all the complaints I'd have to hear from the wife about block heaters and "weird size gas pump nozzles".
