Unhappy Help locating upper arm bushings

Hello all,

New hot issue with my beloved car. It would appear that the rubber (neoprene?) bushing on my front upper control arm have disintegrated since installation last January. Car is a 83 300 SD and at present I only see the right side having failed.

Are these available from parts stores or do I have to get the whole assembly again?

Thanks to any reply's.

AXM

A year is unusual....are you sure there is no roughness or burrs causing this?

The arms were brand new when I installed them. bushing did appear a little smaller then the old ones being removed, but no burrs that I could see or feel.

Could other worn front end parts be helping the cause? I have a loud thomp when the following conditions are present: Low speed travel (in this case as I leave teh paved road entering my driveway) and the dip between the asphalt and gravel is greater then 2". Have not been able to locarte the darn rascal.

How are lower ball joints and guide rod bushings/joints....

Were these UCA tightened to spec and they were installed dry as required correct?

What brand of upper control arms did you use? Lemforder are OE, Ocap is after market.

I'll bet a dollar you have a bad lower ball joint on one or both sides. Jack it up and check it out. The problem is not with the quality of your parts.

I would bet lower ball joint also, jack up the car with tire on. take long pry bar and push up on the bottom of tire, you will feel and here it.

question. when replacing lower ball joint...do you need to pull the brake rotor, hub, wheel bearing and backing plate? i have heard that you can leave it all on and still have room to use the u-shaped press tool. Is this correct? I sure would rather not have to remove the hub and wheel bearings.

I don't know...its mighty tight with the rotor and backing plate attached.
