Fuel shutoff
 

I am in the middle of changing the fuel shutoff vac. assembly. I feel like I have it hooked properly but im am scared of the engine running away, can I mount it without the screws and just wedge a piece of wood between the oil filter housing and the back of the shutoff unit just to see if it works and if it runs away just dislodge the piece of wood. Thanks for any info

Im pretty sure that the vacuum cutoff pulls on the injection pump rack to get it to stop flowing fuel to turn the engine off, therefore, by having a piece of wood jammed in there like you said, it would probably be pulling on the rack and you probably could not even start it. BUT, if it did start and began to run away removing the chunk of wood would not do anything.

Remove the "U" tube that joins the air cleaner housing to the turbocharger. Get a piece of plywood that would cover up the intake of the turbo. Then (with cutoff valve bolted down of course) start the car to test whether or not it works. If it starts to run away slam the piece of plywood over the turbo inlet and since the engine needs axygen to run, it will shut off.

Where did you get your new vac shutoff vavle? Im in for a new one soon.

I installed the cutoff in the injection pump with gaskets in place and no bolts put a wedge of wood between the oil filter housing and the back if the vac unit keeping it in place, hooked the nipple straight to the brake booster line and used a pair of forcepts to pinch line and started engine, engine did not run away thank goodness, and then I removed the forcepts and she stopped very fast and I then installed the bolts . It took about 1.5 hours to do it was pretty easy to do.. I got it at performance products foo abut 45.00
