Just got back from Cookeville, TN Autozone
Drove there to buy two batteries - one for the 240D that wouldn't start this morning and one for the 300SD that wouldn't start this morning. The clerk checked the 300's battery and said it was fine and as soon as he tightened up the loose ground clamp(now I know why the battery charger all night didn't help!), things would be ok. Put the 240's battery on their charger for awhile and it also checked good.
Selected a $2.00 ice scraper and asked if it would be alright if I bought that. The clerk said I could buy everything in the store if I wanted it but that they would not sell me something I really didn't need.... Things such as this tends to restore our faith in humankind. Now I gotta work on why the 240 is so hard to start. Glow pulgs are new and working & the toaster wires burn ya if touched during glow & the filters are clean. Starts better if block heater is on for several hours. Will check/adj valves shortly altho it runs to 85mph down the road after warmed up. There is a steep hill on the way to town and the transmission always shifts down at the same spot on the hill for the last year....

You're lucky with your AZ. My local has been going downhill the last few years. Constant change of employees. Never the same counter person there twice except for the manager. Now the Napa next door is more like the old school parts stores. Same employees for years and know their stuff. AutoZone has been turning into something like McDonalds.
My local Radio Shack has now become the Gold Plated store. Everything in it is gold plated. If it aint gold plated or attached to a cell phone, they don't sell it anymore. Short rant over.

I think you should check all the cells in the battery make sure the electrolyte solution is of the proper specific gravity which should be more than 1.260. Maybe even give it a batt drop test if you have the equipment.Curious what does the starter in these beasts draw??

We may have to have a Jackson County GTG. I also have good Luck with the Autozone in C'ville. Jere (manager) will always make sure customers are happy with parts/service. I like their parts loaner program too,

Update
240 will not start with it's "good" battery. Block heater on all nite(and still on). Outside temp was 21* this morning and it's 50* now. Pumped primer 'til my thumb hurt! Will concentrate on it later.
Just tried again after placing charger on 10amp manual for about 1hr & this one fired right up.... 300sd will not start with it's "good" battery. Engine will barely turn over with starter. Meter shows 12.2v and drops to around 7v during start. This engine has turned slower than I think it should ever since I have owned it - always started after a turn or two. Starter bushings/brushes(it's ONLY 24 yrs. old!) Will put charger back on and update later. Put the charger, same way on the 300 and she fired right up also. So much for AZ diagnosis.... 'course they just said batteries were good. They did now advise they were fully charged. That must be two different things.

Boy, this does sound very familiar-make sure they roll out the cart with the computerized load tester on it- my A.Z. thought my bad battery was good at first too(with their handheld tester). They did have the best price on a 975 CCA one though, it starts like a Cummins now(well, almost!).

Had to go back to the charger on both today. The 300 started
about noon and the 240 hasn't yet started. Guess I'll spring for a couple batteries.
My Jap Jeep(Suzuki Samurai) quit on me going up the hill to the pasture awhile ago. I rolled it back down to the flat. The starter would not turn it over enough to start. Cleaned, tightened connections. Turned over fine but would not start. After using my 71yrs of vast electronic/mechanical knowledge, I noticed the gasoline gauge was on the empty peg! Oh well, tomorrow is another day....

have you cleaned all your ground wires?
and you might try a jumper from the neg of the bat to the starter bolt.
