A few questions about my new 300SDL

I spent a few hours using the search but did not find difinitive answers. The heater defrost buttons I believe they call it the climate control module? All I get is defrost I can here the aux pump making noise when I turn on the key.fan works on hi ,auto ,and low.Is there a way to test this control? In the link to my pics there is one of the water outlet and a tube that is pinched off was there some thing connected to this at one time. Also there is a pic of some wires that are by the fuse box they are in a nylon sheath a brown and a black with two sets of 1/4female spade connectors on each about a 12inch apart. Are the wheels on this car stock for this year or are they from a different car they are 16".Also are the lifters hyd or mechanical. It has a noise like a ping when cold if you bring the RPM up to around 1000 it goes away and the motor runs a lot smoother .It is almost like the timing changes or some thing changes in the pump because it changes very fast as you raise the rpm below the throttle point it makes the noise and runs alittle rough then it runs smooth any ideas? Or is this normal. Motor has no blow by at idle.
I saw one post on the tranny front pump leak that recomended replacing all the orings in the pump and the torque converter seal at the same time has any one else had this leak and what did you do to fix it.

Do you only get air in defrost mode or does air come from the defrost vents in any mode? If only deforst mode works then it's a pushbutton unit failure. If air comes from the defrost vents in any mode then it's a vacuum failure.

Do you hear the auxiliary pump or the aspirator blower motor? If it's a buzzing near the glove box, it's the aspirator blower motor.

The car was originally delivered with 15x7 wheels similar to what you see on a 560SEL. Those wheels aren't from a different car, they're aftermarket wheels. Lorinser is not an MB OEM. At least not back in the late 80s.

The engine has hydraulic lash adjusters. There's a way to check which ones are bad. They're like $15 each. Switching to Mobil 1 or Delvac can quiet noisy lash adjusters.

Do a search on Diesel Purge. Might cure the noise at idle. Also do a search on delivery valve seals.

Thanks for the reply I get defrost with any button pushed so I will look into the vac thing any sugestions on where to start. No ideas on the wires or little tube at water outlet?

My car doesn't have that tube. The coolant outlet has a boss with no threads or through hole.

One of the vacuum lines from the small fitting on the vacuum pump goes into a yellow checkvalve on the false firewall. On the other side of the checkvalve is a fitting for a line that goes into the cabin and a line that ducks under the fuse box and to a vacuum reservoir in the fender. Make sure the source line has over 15 inHg at idle. Make sure the reservoir holds a vacuum. If you're getting vacuum into the cabin then most likely you have a number of bad vacuum actuators.

I hope you have a MityVac.

Yes I have a mighty vac I also have a vacuum pump .I spent today pulling the trans to fix the leaks. It had one at the rear modulator on pass side and the frt pump.I pulled the pump and took it apart the oring in there was hard as a rock were these rubber at one time or did they use some kind of nylon. The rear modulator seal was the same..Also found that rear output bearing or it maybe a bushing is loose did not have the socket to take it off to see what is worn out.I looked around and found that the egr has been disconected found were the line sould be coming from and it is pluged at the relay on the fender well.

"o-ring hard as a rock"

Mine was the same, it shattered. I was told they were rubber and the older fluids were harder on the o-rings. My replacement was rubber.

What got me was that the lip seal on the piston that is on the frt pump cover the one you take off to get the pump off those were fine.Did you have to replace the oring on the cover for the govoner that is on the pass side all the way to the rear. That oring was all so hard and would only come out in little sections.my rear out put bearing was shot also.
