Which is why I didn't link to it here in the first place. All of those videos are available online other places.

BTW muchosucko doesn't cause ANY problems if you access it with Firefox

Obviously its not "family" type website but the spam is easily combatted with firefox.

I e-mailed smart a while back about when/if it will be available here in the U.S. thet told me they are currently working on a U.S. model but it would not be available any sooner than 2008.

Sorry, but I find this statement quite ironic coming from a fellow motorcycle rider. Would I buy one? Yes, but it would have to shine above it's competition in fuel economy, which is gonna be hard considering what cars like the Prius, and Insight post for mileage. That little 3 banger diesel though, would be fun to throw around.

Though I am sure the smart will be choked, stabbed, strung up, and shot 4 times in the face before they offer it here in the states as a model that "complies with EPA regulations"

BTW, does anyone know what kind of fuel economy these cars get?
67 mpg. I don't think it's so much a big-SUV-obsession problem. Look at how well Mini Cooper's sell. It would be a cult thing. Unfortunately, diesel deters people, as does a vehicle that tops out at 75 mph. It would be hard for these cars to get going as far as popularity in this culture. I think it's possible, especially as fuel situations go downhill, but it would take an excellent marketing campaign. And the rest of the U.S. M-B sector isn't exactly soaring right now ...

MPG in usa gallon is a bit hard to quantify, on the canadian smart forums, 60-80 mpg is usual, some folks claim 113 mpg for optimum long distant highway driving, to 42 mpg for aggressive city driving when car was new. 56 mpg is combined estimate.

Which makes diesel a cheaper thing (< $300 cdn) if you decide drive from the pacific to the atlantic (4000 miles)

The Smart is better than both, esp. on the highway, in terms of economy. Performance and practicality-wise, though, the hybrids are probably a lot more appealing. But gasoline + battery does nothing for me ...

Sorry about the muchosucko site - I changed the link. I'd never seen the website before - it was something my brother sent me. We both use Macs and Firefox so I guess he wasn't concerned about the cookies.

Coming to us?

Depends on what you hit

Harkening back to the college days getting degrees in Safety. These crash test basically simulate hitting exact same vehicle at exact same speed head on, or in this case Smart cars at a closing rate of 140 mph.

Personally I would love to have to have a Smart car. But if I hit it head-on in the E300DT, it will "smart" a lot more for them.

Hehehe, have you noticed the same reluctance by people to passing you in your Crown Vic as I have noticed with mine? I had one afraid to go by me on the way home from work tonight, despite the fact that I was running 10 under the limit.
