Advice on shipping cars
Does anyone here have any advice on shipping cars? I am thinking of possibly purchasing one from out of state from a forum member. I got a quote from the shipper (DAS) that it is connected with ebay and it seemed really high. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I've used DAS, they are excellent. I don't think they are connected with eBay, unless there was a buyout or something.
You may find a somewhat cheaper place but I'd be concerned that they might be lesser in reliability. A way to save a few $$ is specify dock to dock shipping, you drop off at their nearest place of consolidation and pick up likewise. |
I bought my 2000 E430 on Ebay, and DAS charged me about $725 to ship from Houston to Southern California.
This is the only experience I have with shipping cars, and it was a positive one. It only took 2-3 days for the car to arrive, and they dropped it off right at my garage. If you feel like shopping around, I'd do a google search, and call several outfits to compare prices. |
www.horselesscarriage.com i saw them deliver here recently and the driver was also a car enthusiast. i guess that helps in this gig. .

I think DAS are pretty expensive. Check out this website: http://www.auto-transport-reviews.com/

When I priced shipping a car from NJ to CO (about 1800 miles), the quotes were all around $1000. I just found a cheap flight and drove it back (easy 3 day drive). If you have time, it's more fun anyway.

Used DAS to ship the '79 from the San Diego area to Ft. Wayne, IN. It was around the end of Dec. so the weather from there to here sucked. Car was dirty but they came in when they said they would. Overall, I was satisfied with the transaction.

I just shipped a sold a car to a guy in Missouri and he got a low rate with some carrier and the truck that showed up was a flatbed and all the trucker had were ramps up the back of the truck...Needless to say it was a very difficult manuever to get it on the truck ....Shipped to Missouri on an open flat bed...You get what you pay for.....
