Wheel bearings

I have one question about replacing wheel bearings does the outer race of the bearing have to be pressed in and can you replace bearings with normal tools. Thanks for any info

The old race can be knocked out with a large drift or by using a large socket installed backwards (upside down) on an extension bar. There is not a lot of "lip" to get good contact, but it can be done. Drive the race out as evenly as possible.

The new race can be tapped in with a hammer. Hold the old race over the new one to avoid damage to the new part and so that you can drive the new race all the way home. Then knock the old race out if it seats slightly. Again, drive the race in as evenly as possible.
