Pictorials on oil, transmission and power steering fluid change ready.

I just completed 3 new pictorials on the Mercedes maintenance page. Oil and transmision fluid change, and power steering service. I also grouped all the pictorials by catagory to make it easier to find the one you need.

I just took a look at your power steering fluid change pictorial. A flush is better than just sucking out the fluid as you did, there's still fluid in the system you couldn't get to unless you give it a flush. If you thought the bottom of the reservoir was dirty, just think of what's in the lines that you didn't get to. Also, I wouldn't use Dexron/Mercon or any type of ATF, I'd just use regular old power steering fluid, today's ATF isn't the same as the ATF that was around when our cars were new. This is the thread I used.

Diesel Giant,

I just received the transmission valve levers I ordered a few days ago. Fast shipment by the way. I replaced them on my car and I still have some shift clunks. I guess I might be looking at the modulator on the injection pump. Anyway, thanks for offering the instructions on how to replace them and thanks also for selling them. :)

i didnt see anything about draining the torque converter. just curious, did you drain it?

I also noticed that when I read the pictorial. I assumed he skipped it on purpose.

I have changed my transmission fluid twice in 23K miles but have never drained the torque converter (changed the filter once). I plan to do a complete transmission service soon: drain the pan, drain the torque converter, change the filter, change the gasket and put in fresh new fluid. Then every 10K miles, I'll just drain the pan then every 30K miles I'll perform the complete service. Should keep the tranny in good shape. :D

Where did u get the glowplugs?

Diesel Giant,
I have the loop type glow plugs and am having problems. Where did you find Pencil type glow plugs to fit into the head?

I have those in a kit to retrofit the old style cars.

I did not include the torque convertor because this was just a filter and fluid change. I may include the torque convertor at a later date.

Mercedes recommends ATF for the power steering fluid. Again that was just a filter change and not a flush. Just the basics.
