Replacing hoses

After having my radiator rebuild I think it's time to replace all the hoses, some look to be "recent" replaced and others are definitely original.

One small hose, 2 inches needed immediately replacement: $ 15,- at the dealership. I can only imagine how much the rest of those hoses is going to cost me if I get them from the dealership.

Was wandering how you guys determine the right hoses for your model and where to get it for a good price?

And what is the best way to get the air out of the system after finishing the job?

Thanks

........hoses.

I recently decided to replace the upper hose on the SD. The original 20 year old hose was still serviceable but had bulged slightly just outside the clamps.

It's a very well made hose and quite stiff with decent wall reinforcement.

Bought an aftermarket hose from one of the usual sources. It's a Continental hose. The wall thickness is about 2/3 of the original and it's very soft and pliable. When installing it, the bend at the thermostat housing actually causes the hose to kink slightly because it's so weak.

I took it back off and put the 20 year old hose back on.

Now, the replacement hose is ordered at the dealer. The aftermarket hose will be compared to the replacement hose from the dealer, at the dealer counter. If they are identical, then the dealer hose will not be purchased. If they are not identical, then the dealer hose will be purchased and a photograph of both hoses will be taken and posted.

I'm really hoping that the hose from the dealer will be of higher quality.

please note

brians post.

i have several cars with original hoses. i never replace them unless they actually fail, which is rare. you cant buy hoses equal to the quality of the factory parts. perhaps even from the factory.

I get mine either from Fastlane for the simple ones, or the dealer for the heater hoses between the fire wall. I have replaced about three quarters of all the heater hoses on the SDL. I will do the last couple in the spring when I do the coolant flush. I don't trust old hoses. After 10 years I do the radiator hoses and after 15 I re hose the entire car if I plan on traveling with it.

Well, I am hoping that this is not the situation. Maybe the factory part will be similar to the original. We'll see.
