W123 300D auto to a manual

I was given a 1977 300D and love it. It was babyed since it was new and my grandparents were the orig. owners. Its a automatic and im in my teen years so im looking into converting it into a manual. I have heard stories about this automatic 617 having a different crank then the manual. I am wondering if this is true and if not what would be a good transmission that would fit this car (with a modified driveshaft of course).

a number of folks

have converted using 240d flywheels clutches and trannys. it may be necessary to check balance on the fw for neutral balance. i had mine checked it is neutral from factory, but factory service manual says it is balanced with the crank.

good luck

i am pretty sure

that that is not correct. we are talking of the bolts on the crank right?
