Check on that again. My 2001 EPC shows two different part numbers for that bolt, depending on engine number. One has a list price of $7, and the other $52. But if I'm reading it right, that is for a kit of 5, not just for one. If you need a mail order dealer source, try www.calibermotors.com - they do a lot of internet sales and offer a pretty good discount.

That's what I went through. I had them order both to see which one is for my car. Turns out it's the expensive one at $40 a bolt ($3 or $4 a piece for the other one).

I was going to do calibermotors, but the next day and up the street was my option in this case.

He said it shouldn't be a problem. He believes that the bolt that broke was overtorqued previously and had been stretched ever so slightly. I'm having it towed to his shop tomorrow.

Update

Well, the machinist got the bolt out, but he recommended that I replace the other two bolts (on the 3-bolt rocker) as well. The brought the new bolt to him today while he was working on the car, and he measured it and found that it was thicker than the other two. He believes that all three had previously been over-torqued.

So, I don't know what to do with myself now. This is the first weekend in a long time that I haven't been working on the car (I would, but it's not in my driveway). Guess I can start cleaning the house and catching up on work....I can even start paying more attention to my dogs...and fish....jeez, might even go out on a date or something. HEY! What the fizzle? I've been missing out on life! It's been passing me by as I change out monovalves and remove fungus from my fuel system. The irony was that I got the car to be drive around and promote the use of alternative fuels...I haven't drivin anywhere

He'll be ordering the bolts on Monday and putting them in on Tuesday. I'm going to let him install them and get the proper angle, clean and polish the holes, etc.

Pete.

FYI,

Those rocker bolts are reduced shank special bolts. You might do yourself a favor and find a used set. The factory is now subsituting standard 8.8 bolts. Completely different and wrong! So, it's possible if you are using a standard hexbolt(replacement) instead of the orginal style SHCS bolts which look more like rod bolts. They are narrow except at the shear plane.

I can tell you this, because I lost a bolt while a head was removed... and need to replace one. Some nice list member gave me a set of a junked head.

Well, when I ordered them, the dealer said there were two kinds, one cheap, one very expensive. The cheap one looked nothing like the original, the expensive ($40 a pop), looks exactly the same with the allen-key end, narrow except at the thread. Wierd looking. I now am the proud owner of a set of 3 bolts at $120 (the other two torqued properly and I'm not touching that rocker arm as it's already in).
