you must be jumping directly on
the large voltage lugs instead of on the solinoid wires. this bypasses the solinoid and doesnt kick in the bendix so it doesnt engage the flywheel.

Runaway...?
I would think that you are going to need to find a way to glow the system first, turn it over enough to bleed the fuel lines to the injectors and for heavens sake make sure that the shutoff valve is still installed in the IP as a runaway out of the car would be a nightmare to control...
probably a non-issue but I'd be ready to run...

Hmmmm... I figured there must be something going on like that. So how do I engage the solenoid? Where do I connect the jumper?

Thanks Fisherman... all taken care of, though I have a block of wood for the intake just in case!

Put the jumper cable or whatever to the large terminal on the starter and using a screwdriver or remote starter control bridge or hook up from the large terminal to the smaller one on the solenoid. That will activate the solenoid and starter drive will engage flywheel and turn engine. Since you have no exhaust on engine you will find out little other than it runs. I would be more prone to just establish the compression values as a guide to engines general condition. You could have a small rod knock and miss it with an open exhaust. You do not want to install a block with low compression anyways as you will never be happy with it. Do make sure the valves have reasonable clearance prior to a compression check.Just my opinions.

Theres no reason why you couldnt build a cheap testbed for a Diesel
I think mine cost me $20. I used the car's radiator and exhaust and starter. This one was back from my RX7 racing days. |
