New 15W40 Oil from Castrol

Howdy Folks,

The other day I was at the old Discount Auto Parts (now named Advance Auto Parts) looking to buy a few gallons of oil, when I stumbled upon some gallons of oil selling for $5/gal (cheap). It was a 15W40 Oil from Castrol (popular with me anyway) called Tection. Naturally I grabbed 4 gallons right away. 2 days later, it was still on sale for $5, so I grabbed another 4 gals.

Just wanted to pass along this info on what I think is a good deal on a name-brand oil.

PS: The counter guy thought it would be on sale until the end of the year.

Thumbs up

I've been using BP's oil since I got my SD around this time last year... that gallon sized stuff I saw over the summer. So I've been using it, the Tection Extra, for a long while now.

Been using Castrol Syntec in the gassers for years, but haven't seen the new stuff at Advance yet. Maybe I'll ask them. What I do like there, is the 5gal tubs of Rotella T. When my dad and I do oil changes, we need 21 quarts.

I just picked up a 300TE and at the last oil change the oil change place used 15W-40. This seems way too thick for a Michigan winter and I am planning on chaning it to a synthetic 5W-30 but before I do, is there something I'm not considering? Does a '93 300TE require high viscosity oil for some reason?

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

I think it's thick for a gasser.
