Mercedes-Benz didn't get its reputation for quality, reliability and super long term durability by building cars that were equal to other cars.

Thats what I'm saying. Mercedes make a much better car overall.

It is in pretty good shape except for the clear coat on the hood and tops of the fenders. The interior is in great shape. The dash has only a couple of small cracks but are small and not very obvious. One is by the right speaker grille and the other is by the left defroster vent. The seats are in excellent shape. The carpets could use a little cleaning. It has a two tank WVO system. I have service records since new. I've rebuilt the front suspension 2 years ago. It no longer has a trap oxidizer. I swapped in an earlier model intake/exhaust manifold and turbo about a year and half ago. The A/C works and blows cold. It could use a new set of tires. I don't know what to ask for it but I will price it in the range of other 300D's that are selling in my area with a slight premium for the WVO set up.

I'm surprised to read that considering that MB was still in its days of "hang the expense" attitude when the W124 was engineered. It may have been cheapened along the way in its life cycle like the W140 was, but I thought the original W124s were rock solid in all aspects. Also, don't mistake a thinner sheetmetal for a cost saving measure: as much as it could be so, a thinner sheet metal could also exist as a weight-saving/crash worthiness improvement/efficiency improvement issue.

Right now I'm pulling out the rear window motor. The whole regulator assembly rides on a cable and pully system instead of a gear driven scissor lift. Cheap POS. I saw something like this in a mid 90's Toy Camry. Plain junk! I want to make sure everything is working when I sell it.

I got more ranting about the 124. As I was trying to reinstall the door panel back onto the door, the @#$! arm rest popped its plastic "weld" pins. What a cheap way to attach the arm rest to a door panel! My opinion of this model has really gone down hill. I wouldn't even want one now even with exceptionally low miles at this point.

We appreciate you honesty, cause you are killing your case for selling it to someone here.

LOL

Someone will still buy it. The price just has to be right to reflect all those issues.

I honestly don't want to sell it to anyone on this forum as I would never hear the end of it.

Well if you disclose everything wrong with the car [as you have done in the last few pages], whoever buys it will be fully aware of what they are getting into and you won't be to blame for anything. Brian Carlton recently purchased a car from a forum member that still needs a significant amount of work. He knew what he was getting into, so the fact that the car stranded him was all his own responsibility.

Well I have changed my mind about giving the car away if that's what you're getting at.
