Thumbs up The SDL is 100% emission control free now

Well as some of you may have been reading, I've been removing the emission components of my SDL for a while here... for testing purposes only!

Anyway, I've removed the Air Flow Meter, gutted the Cat, removed the AIR/EGR injection solenoids, removed the associated vac tubing, and lastly removed the EGR.

Gutting the cat is pretty easy, just wear eye as well as a face mask when you do this. That stuff in there is bad for you. Took me around an hour to do this. Biggest reason I'd rather not have it clog up on me ever, causing me to overheat thus cracking that head.

All that vac tubing to the EGR/AIR stuff is self explained. Just trace it, remove it, and such. The main thick black hose just runs behind the firewall inside the vehicle, so don't feel bad to just pull it out and toss it also. This will really tidy up underhood and limit a few vac leaks.

The AFM came off a while back, I did make a thread about it but it is gone as the server died here a while back. This was simple to bypass. Just get an intake snorkel from a 617 motor and install it where the AFM is located. That is all there is to it. Works fine. You can hear the turbo spool up a bit now too.

EGR disappeared with a kit from BC. Simple to install and effective.

Here are some pics on what I've done:

Very well done!
I am in the process of doing the same thing, with possible exception that I am going to leave the cat alone (hey its only got 20 miles on it since the dealer installed it! I'll probably post pictures when I have some too.

Thumbs up

The cat or whatever it is technically called, is right at the end of the downpipe before the flange. It's near the trans crossmember.

Well that's good if the cat has been removed already.
