Bikes and sidecar rigs are quite different. Bikes lean, and 'countersteer' starts the lean.

Sidecar rigs steer, like a car but the handlebars work more like a tiller...

They require that you learn different reflexes for each, and don't mix them up.

There are the leaning side cars too.

They also pull to the right and left depending on accel or decel....a whole lot of fun and danger!

I'm pretty sure the M110 was the 2.8 DOHC six, and the M100 was the legend 6.9 V8

I have a friend with a Harley and a Duc...

I prefer the smooth precision of a BMW bike any day...

I did dirt bikes a long time ago (kept falling off ). I really do like Beamers, but I've also been tempted by the Duc's. I'd probably get in lots of trouble with all that extra power. I'll stick to my "old guy" bike.

I was going to use that Mobil 1... I think its the Delvac? OR see if Castrol has a Diesel rated synthetic since I have been VERY happy with the Syntec in the BMW...

I know that Castrol has a diesel version of their GTX oil, but Im not sure about a diesel rated Syntec though...... You can usually find the diesel rated GTX in with the regular GTX, it will have Diesel on the front of the bottle.

This could be worse than an oil tread.

Personally, I think Beamer twins have lots of character (the older the better), but I don't really like the new liquid cooled ones. I've never been much of a Harley fan, but I still like them better than Japanese bikes.

Just use 15-40 diesel oil. If you want something better mix in a single quart of synthetic. On my engine I can hear a difference after adding a single quart of Mobile 1 .

And as a pre-emptive strike against those who say you shouldn't mix synthetic and ordinary mineral based oil.

I thought the purpose of getting a G/S over a pure dirt bike was so that you didn't need a trailer.
Or has the BMW G/S changed that much in the last twenty years? (I haven't paid much attention to bikes since I left the dealership in 1987, newest one I own is a 1979 model)

well ...character?

back when i rode the beemer, i guess harleys had more character cause they always leaked everywhere and would maybe break down at any moment.

i have never understood the allure of a harley, they have always seemed insufferably crude to me. but i confess i have never ridden one except as a passanger back in about 1954 when i was about six.

no, in my mind the beemers do have character. but then too, i have never driven any except the boxer, which i loved.

once did 10k miles in two weeks on mine back in 76. rode up thru canada to the bay of fundy, down thru main, mass etc and back on us forty to indiana. did 600 miles one day, from new york state to fort wayne in, with my wife on back and an 80# duffel. our butts never got sore. wore out a brand new conti on the back on the trip. running 75 hour on end with a lot of weight on the back did it in.
