Update on my project

With winter getting ready to set in for good tomorrow with our first real "winter event" I decided that I needed to move the project 300TD into the garage.

First I had to remove the carcass of a 300D that I am parting out, out of the garage. I had to remove the heater core, sunroof frame and fuel tank first. The heater core wasn't too hard, and the sunroof came out once I pried it away from the glue. The fuel tank was harder than I thought. Without removing the tank strainer it was difficult to get the tank up high enough. Once that was out and the car was winched up onto the trailer I headed for the dump, where they promply refused my donation of scrap steel. Despite the fact that I've dropped off a car body there before they weren't about to let me do it yesterday. I did get a referral to a scrap steel company and I'll give them a call tomorrow.

I managed to get the parts 300TD moved out of the way beside the garage and the project 300TD moved into the garage though. I can now remove the smashed tailgate. I will cut the quarter panel out of the donor 300TD this week, and the flanger/punch will be in this week so I can start fitting the panel on the keeper as soon as it arrives. I can also start drying out the floors to look for the leak up front. I have the battery tray out to repair some rust under it, and I'm going to remove a door panel or 4 to track down a vacuum leak. I can replace the bad door check at the same time, and fix the passenger's side door lock which is missing one of the rods.

I can also dig into the engine to adjust the valves, check the timing chain stretch, replace the primer pump, and replace the thermostat housing hose. If I get lucky I'll find an oil leak or two that I can stop.

I need to drop the transmission pan to change the fluid/filter and to replace the kickdown cable. I'll change out the leaking transmission cooler line while the system is drained.

Can someone tell my why yellow blitz cans are $7.xx each and red blitz cans are $4.99 each? Yellow spray paint is under $2/can and will cover 3 blitz cans.

Wish me luck,
-Tad

I have a few that I need to sort out. Here is the before:

... and now:

The donor is in the background. My flanger should be here any day now. I can't wait.
