True.

I don't think I'd ever spend $1,500 on a body kit for a car that's probably worth a little more or less than double that price. But like I said before, when you make mods based on taste, you risk all.

Yea, it's probably fine if that's what you want to drive and you intend to keep the car forever. However, the older a car becomes the more people are going to want it to be correct. The risk is you pay $1500 for the kit, than you lose another $1500 in resale value. Also, try to explain the value of the kit to your insurance company if you have an accident.

Thats part of the reason I would never buy a body kit. Come resale time a lot of people will be turned off by it. However if I were to install a body kit it would be an AMG from the period.

When people see such "kits" installed on a non-turbo car, they wonder what else has the owner done?

If you keep it clean and stock, people will think you take care of it and love it.
If you put a cheap-o body kit on it and leave it unpainted for months, well, they have a much lower opinion of you/it.

If I can find a W123 AMG body kit in a junkyard someday, I would be all over it. Until then I'll just keep doing little bits at a time.

For example: Swapping the 240D all-rubber tail light trim to a 300D chrome-rubber trim made a huge difference the way the rear end looks to other drivers.

I agree I would love an accurate AMG body kit for my W123....to go with the AMG Pentas I run on it.

IMHO, even the AMG kits look like a bunch of plastic add-ons. I'll take the stock look any day.
