Geez!

This whole thing makes me pause and reflect on what one, can and should do. Buying through a local dealer and researching the hell out of your purchase, is the only way to go. Dead Bodies! Never even a consideration before now.

Makes me want to consider a new car and bite the bullet, on depreciation etc. As Riley, used to say, "What a revoltin' developement this is"!

I wonder if I can fit into a Cobalt, Beetle, Focus, maybe a Pickup, hey a Corvette! Let's look at these big rebates from the carmakers! MAN!!!

CAVEAT EMPTOR!! MORE NOW THAN EVER!

Twenty thousand and rising for a german diesel U boat? Someones going to go under. Price does not seem credable at all. Have to wonder if shill biding is going on to attract some sucker. W.C. Fields said there is one born every day but as I like people would not wish a car like that on anyone. Salvage value is in the range of 15 cents on the dollar in my opinion or perhaps less for a water soak. Just try to imagine the vending of this car on ebay if they were not stuck with the flood title.

Yikes! That car is destroyed. And for $20K? I do not think so. Yeah, more like $5K is right, if that. If the water was that high, then it soaked the instrument panel too. He said "any issues it may or may not have". Obviously it is loaded with electrical problems now. It does not even have any power when it is switched on. Imagine the glitches it is going to have if it ever even starts. Not to mention the smells inside of it.

Yeah, you can see the water inside the glass and if you look closely, you can also see it on the seats, console and around the rear doors.

Looks like it should be the end of the road for this Benz.

A real shame too, it is such a beautiful automobile.

Your best bet? Steer clear of this car!

want to bet some chop shop doesn't end up using those VIN numbers to clean up a stolen car.....thats another possibility...

Some shopes steal popular cars strip them.....dump the chassis where it will be found....buy it at auction (usualy locally held) reassemble the car and voila! cheap legally registered car.

Ohio was known for it and Indiana too....

Its more than one state and not just those....doubt me? My mom worked with Dealer only Wholesale auction in PA....one of the two big ones...for 35 years. You learn of the scams from the honest dealers....and see so many of the shady ones try whatever it takes to rip people off.

oatmeal to silence noisey manual transmissions and rear ends....oatmeal or black peper to temp seal up leaky radiators...name a scam and she has seen it.

Sorry, not a Mercedes, but this 2004 BMW also suffered water damage. Probably a lemon as well. Interesting to see what this cars bid will go to. Replaced carpeting and seats. New computer, etc. Few warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel, what a lemon this will be too!

HUGE savings they claim. What about the thousands that you will have to spend on it?

Wow... there must be lots of them out there on eBay by now. I must admit, the car looks sharp and a quick glance at the pics alone won't reveal anything, especially with all that has been replaced.

It appears that the water level went up to the bottom of the dash. The damage was so minimal that the insurance company did not issue it a salvage title. It is a regular NJ title with an F status (flood).

- they got to be kidding. Isn't the Idrive thingy on the console which would put it about 6" under? What happens if a flounder gets stuck in there?
It is hard to believe that someone is willing to pay $20K+ for a car that has been under water.
