Would not touch a flood car with a ten foot pole,,, too many issues to deal with. Now if you got that car for 5K or less, you could probably part it out and make money, but as far as a reliable long term driver,,, forget it.

I called the guy about this car as I was also interested. Big word of caution here it is a Katrina car from the great state of Lousiana and I was told the water came up to the middle of the seat backs. That is way to high and as you probably already know this car is riddled with electronic issues to begin with.

I would not touch it and I am a brave individual. It could cost you a ton just to get power back to it and of course ripping out interior and replacing probably a ton of relays that shorted in the process. Think it over it would be cheaper to buy a new one at 53,000 because you could resell it this one you will own for the rest of your life and did I mention we are already in the northeast in a deep freeze. 28 degrees and guess what happens to cars with which they are water logged? They freeze and break more things if not in a garage. NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE !!! And besides it is black.

This car has probably already been totaled by the insurance company and sold for salvage value (maybe $5K). Someone is really trying to make a profit on this deal.

One of the worst car purchases you can make is to purchase a flooded W211... everyone knows they are troublesome computers on wheels (when dry... imagine what they are when wet!)

Wow flooded up to the back seat I think that car needs to be parted out or sold for a really cheap price. But as I see it is already up to 19k. I think some mechanic is going to have a great Christmas when they give the new owner the bill or a new wiring harness, computers etc.

Maybe the mechanic can fund their kids college education on just this one repair.

want to bet that car gets cleaned up and the title laundered through some lax midwest state to be sold as clear title to some unsuspecting sole.

This is just the beginning, lots of Katrina cars will be on the block. Personaly if I found out a car was in or around New Orleans in 05 I would not buy it. Unless you can inspect it closely to determine it was not underwater.

For $5k I'd probably take a look at that thing it may be worth it at that price. But for $26k buy it now price screw that it would be cheaper to just buy a new one.

Yep. Makes my plan to find a W140 soon even more difficult as I have to automatically exclude any cars from the states of Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, just to be on the ultra safe side. But wouldn't an inspection detect any of that? Whenever I buy my W140 I'd have to get a PPI done on it during which past flooding of the car could also be discovered.

Rich take a leason from my experiance in finding a W140:

Go to your local MB dealers and try to snag clean trades. Very easy place to have the car inspected as well.
Any local high end car lots? The good ones can snag nice clean W140's at auctions.
Never buy one without a PPI
Never buy one off ebay(sorry I did, never again)

For example the local high end car lot had a mint 98 S500 for $17k. It was a cherry car with a full history and no stories.

My friends ebay S320 is in good shape but not cherry, plus no service history. He paid $11,500 + $600 to fix a maf.

Personaly I'd spend the extra money upfront for a local cherry car. Figure $17k-$21k for a cherry late W140. You get what you pay for, a $12k car will look like a bargin one ebay, but so will my $500 beater with enough silicone spray.

Thanks for the advice.

So did the new MAF get rid of the Check engine light?

I've seen very nice looking W140s on eBay and with low asking prices, but I always fear that they've been touched up to look that way and really aren't as nice as they look. Quite a shame!

Looks like the shill network is getting pretty sophisticated. That just can't be all legitimate buyers. I mean, I know there are a lot of stupid people out there, but really!

Notice all the moisture condensed inside on the windshield in the 'frontal pic'.
It will be interesting to see where the bidding ends. $19K is crazy.
It might make good yard art.
