I think I'll have the taco. Hold the special sauce. Wife doesn't particularly care for the diesel since the fuel stinks and is harder to get and it isn't as peppy as her C280. She likes the power to get up and go when she hits the gas pedal. It is more acceptable to her since we got it chipped.

Well, my GF likes to drive my 300SD much more than I like to drive her Jeep Liberty... but I'll try not to take it as a slight that when we're in a big hurry she always has to drive...

Basically my better half started years ago with her comments. Daughter was first by commenting "does this mean we drive tractors now"and "did you get an agriculturial grant to buy one of those". Wife called the first family mercedes diesel a rolling oil furnace that belongs in someones basement. Our dogs hear me coming home a quarter of a mile away she informed me as well. She will drive a mercedes diesel if the alternative is walking though as we live about three miles from town. I think she favours the signal red 240d with a standard transmission but is not going to tell me.

My daughter fell in love with our blue 240D when she came home for Xmas break one year so we bought her a nice 4 spd 240D for collage graduation. She loved it till she had to live and drive in "hilly' Seattle but my wife still really likes her blue 240D .She drove a VW bug for years and doesn't like big cars. She also has a healthy respect for the diesel engine since shes been with me on commercial boats.
One thing for sure, if it breaks down allot or smokes a bunch , there not gona like it.

... well ... the last guy I dated didn't really know what to make of my car. He was one of those guys that was "into cars," but couldn't tell a tailpipe from a turbocharger ... not that I'm a mechanical genius myself. I had to laugh, though ... he drove a v6 Golf (which looked kind of goofy because he was a big guy) and one time, before he had ever ridden in the Benz, tried to show off for me by flooring it around a turn and stating in an oh-so-cool way "can your diesel do THIS?" I just deadpanned "pretty much, yeah." (aside from being manual, the Golf didn't exactly have plaster-you-to-the-rear-windshield acceleration). I think he felt pretty dumb when he rode in the '87 later and realized it was a sluggish stereotypical diesel. He wasn't the most insightful or creative-minded person in the world ... hence, "dated" in the past tense ... Poor guy ... he meant well, but he just didn't get it.
Most girls I know are pretty cool about my diesel. They might make fun of it a little but I don't think they'd shy away from it. In fact usually people, male or female, are impressed with the car, until they find out it's 19 years old ("Wow, I thought that was like a mid-90s car or something!") ... then give me crap. BTW, I drive two diesels (23yo woman), my sister drives a Jetta TDI (25yo woman) and my mom, although she drives a big, hoggish gasser now, for years drove a 1987 GMC Diesel Suburban ... now THAT was a vehicle a "stereotypical woman" wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole ...

I had my wife drive my SDL shortly after I got it, so she'd be comfortable (er, less uneasy) if she ever needed to drive it (particularly if I were away--as I sail on ships for a living, I usually "go away" to work for three to four months at a time). It took her awhile to get the hang of WOT driving, but liked the car better once she did. The next day, she drove her vehicle (Nissan Pathfinder) and was burning rubber at every stop.

The wife wouldn't even ride in my w126. Drove the w124 and called it a tank She prefers the B5.5 Passat TDI.

The wife NEVER drove the smoker, and only rode in it once (prior to smoking). She will ride in the '85 TD occasionally. She has never driven it, but right now it bounces in the back, and if you let go of the steering wheel it takes a hard turn to the right, so it isn't the best time to let her see what it is "like". I tried to get NTB to at least adjust the front end so that it wouldn't turn right, then they could align it after I have the front end rebuilt. They refused, so the wife will have to wait. I digress.....
She doesn't mind driving the '67 Camaro, but risks divorce if anything more than a small bug splatter happened to it. She has a Toyota Sienna minivan that is unbelievably quick, so I don't think she would much enjoy a diesel... She wants one of those Volvo SUV's. Not happening!

My wife really likes my 300D, but didn't usually want to drive "my car." I solved the problem by getting a 240D for her. Now we have matching W123s, almost the same color.

I really don't let other people drive my cars. My dad is the only one who gets to take my cars whenever he wants. My mom, sister, girlfriend really are not interested. Once the MB shine wears off they think they are to slow.

the 1999 E300 is what my wife drives. On an occasion I can slip it away from her. She will not drive the 1985 300D; not modern enough for her.

my wife will
drive my 350 on a trip. otherwise she loves her pt cruiser (pos). all my kids like to drive my benzes. i let my brother drive them too and really anybody who seems responsible.
really the only reason for me not to loan my cars out is if they happen to be oil drinkers (motor oil). i once lent my 454 suburban to my sis which used some oil and when i got it back it was bout 3 quarts low out of 5 total or so. tom w

Still wondering if I will meet someone my age, female, that knows how to properly drive a RWD car and could keep up with me.
So far eveyone else just gets scared. "Aren't bugs slow?"...a prompt left turn/e-brake grab with 2nd gear drop of the clutch gets their attention REAL fast. Nobody has ever called my 300SD slow...it may not be the fastest car on the road going straight but with me behind the wheel I seem to keep up with anything that passes me A female in my physics class mentioned that she saw me the other day going "really fast" through the park blocks at PSU. I replied "yeah...I drive sorta fast." Haha... The closest I have came to meeting a female driver who used to rally cars was my last girlfriends mom who rallied fiats and whatnot. She sounded like she was hardcore back in the day but is now a elementary school teacher. Where do I sign up for a cool chick? haha |

My W123 300D never feels very nice when driving fast, just fees bleh. Then again I havent done anything to the suspension besides shocks and sway bar bushings... all bushings are original, subframe mount, etc
Anyone know the front and rear weight distribution ?
