300SDL Exhaust Hangers

We have a 1986 300SDL we've been trying to sell and I have been replacing little stupid things that need to be replaced. The tailpipe was hanging so I replaced the rubber donuts that keep it suspended, but I noticed that the rubber donut near the central muffler was also torn. It is of a different thickness than the tailpipe one because the hook that is mounted on the body of the car is *right up against* the body and there isn't any clearance for the tailpipe donut to fit in there.

SO I went to the dealer and told him what donut I needed and he gave me one that I thought would be satisfactory but upon trying to fit it on that hook mounted to the body, it won' fit, and the exhaust is just clanking around when you make turns, not very conducive to selling a car when you're having someone test drive it... makes them think that the suspension is clunking. Of course this piece of rubber cost me 10 and a half clams. Does anyone have any part numbers or anything I could use to get the dealer parts guy the right idea here?

When I go to fastlane it says that you use 2 of the square rubber mounts for the center muffler, but this car had a longer, thinner version of the tailpipe hangers... im a tad confused here.

This is a bit off subject, but does anyone have any idea how to stop the damn interior panels from rattling around and squeaking on this damn car? On rough roads there is just annoying squeaking from the interior (the rear passenger area). My W123 with 30K more miles doesn't make one friggin rattle, rough road or not. Did they not put as much quality into the W126 interior?

The W126 interior is of much better quality than the W123. A very common source of squeaking (on many older MBs - this problem is not exclusive to any particular chassis) is the bottom edge of the door panels rubbing against the plastic door sill. You can put some rubber / vinyl conditioner on the problem area or stick strips of velcro (the fuzzy part) on the offending areas.

Thumbs up

I put new hanger on both of my cars.

SDL needed one square one and three round ones.

SD needed two round and two square

I chose the hard round ones so the exhaust is tucked up much higher. Just a warning, these are not easy to install. Took me a solid 15 min per square one of fumbling about... But once they're on. x 5
