We got freezing rain here that will crawl right up to your doorstep and put you on your arse when you walk out your door.

Creepy stuff...if you have ever seen it in action...its WELL worth a video search.

Oregon is one of the few places in the states where we get a mix of dampness and cold on occasion and it makes for freezing rain/fog...but not very often snow.

Well we had 3" of real heavy stuff this morning....a little wheelspin getting out to the main road (untreated when I left and all uphill from my house) but overall the Blizzaks did well.....I think I can live with th esnow performance of this car with these tires....without developing a stress related disorder.

The W116 is at the bottom of my driveway under a temporary carport I built off the garage.....its never seen salt and never will while I own it...

I drove the W123....as its either that or my truck...and my truck won't fit in the parking garage where I work...(too tall) Honda is awaiting a new hub bearing in the steering knuckle and has no tags at the moment.

Wednesday Evening Austin was hit with freezing rain....my trip home, 23.5 miles, took 3 1/4 hours. The first bridge I crossed, my SD did a little dance left, right, left, right.....not a pretty feeling when you are doing less than 30mph.

Was then just cruising alone in the center lane of three lane wide "Mopac" highway, nearest traffic was at least 1/4 mile away in both directions....then I see them....bunch of kids in a Toyo....cruising up behind me at 50mph minimum....in the center lane...idiots.....I wait until the last possible second to see if they are going to move...nope....I dive to the right side....they miss clipping my backside by less than a foot....then they start doing a jitterbug across the bridge....not sure how they maintained, but they reached solid ground, straightened up and kept on going...

3 miles down the road and they were wiped out and took a couple other cars with them.....idiots....

Austin had over 70 wrecks that night......

PS..the new snowing home page causes errors on my NT box...shuts down IE...hmmmmmmmmmm

We had about nine inches here. I christened Bronson's 4WD. Would have taken me half an hour to get the Benz out, but man, that Jeep just charged right out of its snow-fortress like it was a light dusting. I'm miffed, though, because I just bought a multimeter and was looking forward to playing with it under the hood ... now the hood has 9 inches of snow on it, and the car is walled in by 2-foot piles shoved there by the plows.

Thats why you dig a hole to the drivers door...fire the car up and let it idle until the entire area around the car is clear of snow

Self cleaning..if you will..

we got about

12" yesterday early. i got up and ran my 66 scout around plowing all my driveways and parking lot. what with the shoveling and running out of gas once and getting my car out to go get gas and the scout not having power anything and very heavy clutch action and weak defrost i worked at it from 6 to about 11.

school was on two hour delay.

in spite of the hard work at hand i had to stop and admire the simple beauty of all that white stuff. the city looked so clean. it is quiet too. muffles the noise and less cars moving around.

i have a driveway too. and since i sold two benzes and a suburban it looks more like a driveway now and less like a parking lot.

having lots of stuff is a double edge sword. more to think about and worry about. some say after a while the stuff owns you instead of the other way around. i say, sometimes i feel like i am sinking in a sea of stuff.

the stuff after a while loses a lot of its luster, just as stuff. in the end the best thing about stuff for me is buying old stuff that others think is done for and figuring out how to make something useful and making money at it.

buildings and cars. these i know something about and can figure out how to make useful and make money at. now, at this point in my life. the cars are stritly a hobby type thing. at one time they were necessary for my sanity as something i could do all on my own.

i am almost done with my present old building and am looking for a bigger one to trade up for so i can do it over again. the one i am going to look at monday is three times as big as my present one. if i get that i will almost certainly have to have partners to do it....another double edged sword.

in the mean time i am working on a (some would say crazy) plan to add another floor to my present historic building with six luxury penthouse living units.

so i am saying that sometimes all this old car fixing and repairing can be preparation for something that can be a living for some of us.

so hang in there in another thirty or forty years you may be able to drown in stuff too!
