Whats the history of your diesel Benz?

Do you know the history of you diesel Mercedes? I know I little bit about mine.
It was originally sold to Giangreco Medical Group in Palm Spring California on 12-5-1981. (I guess I just past the 24th anniversary on her being on the road). In the mid 90's it made it's was to Oregon. It was in an accident in 95 or so. Went through a couple more owners. And know I have it. I have reciepts starting in 1995.
Maybe you guys have stories that are a little more exciting.

Andrew

What color socks were you wearing the first time you drove it?

I know the history I do not want. Previously owned by little old lady in the taxi business would qualify for an example. It is remarkable and has crossed my mind a few times how little I know about previous owners and history of the few examples I own. One of my cars has been all over the world judging by the front and rear window admission and parking stickers for instance to exclusive places. The service manual and odometer indicate relatively low total milage ( 134,000 kilometers or about 80 thousand miles) but hard to believe unless they never bothered to fix anything at all as time went by. The prevous celebrity owner is still alive I believe.

My 1983 300D was purchased at RBM Motors in Atlanta, GA - brand new by the previous owner (I am the 2nd owner of the car). Sticker price was around $32K. Car has seen a good portion of the U.S. - it was even in Hawaii for a period of time (first owner was in the military). He put around 195K on the car before selling it to me. When I got it in 2001, my dad did some work to it - lots of suspension work, some things here and there on the motor. It was a pretty sound car when we bought it for $1750 though. I've been driving it ever since, and am now over 250K. My dad and I have been fixing things as they break - nothing really big yet, maybe getting the rear axles rebuilt. We also had it repainted in 2003 - nothing too fancy, just a decent job at a local shop. Sadly, I know that I am going to be driving the car until June. My mom's current car is going to be paid off then, and my parents are going to give it to me. They are contemplating keeping the 300D for them to just drive around town, and I hope they do.

Arrow 85 300DT hang ten

My PO was a blond chic up in Jensen Beach, FL. before that she lived on the coast in N. Carolina. Since there is still sand in my car and sea shells in the 1st Aid kit, and it had alot of surfing stickers on the bumper, some from San Diego, CA; I think my 300D had plenty of fun for the 10 yrs it spent on the beach.
PO before her might 've been the Original owner, in Virginia....

Car had more fun than most of us....)-:

My 1984 300D-T was purchased new at Mercedes-Benz of Manhattan by a couple from a small town just across the border from New York in Massachusettes. The car resided there for a year, and was then driven across country to San Diego when the couple re-located. I have all importation documents, window sticker, bills of sale and records for the cars entire life, down to gas receipts and the 2 oil changes that were performed enroute to CA- one in Jersey and another in Arizona.

It resided in San Diego, garaged, pampered, and preserved until 2003 when the couple had to sell the car due to age. Their son handled the sale of the car, and in May of 2003 I flew down to San Diego and picked the car up and drove it back. It had 145K miles at the time.

Since it has been in my possession I have invested nearly $30K into it mostly mechanical and some cosmetics- seat re-upholstering, re-finishing the bundts, etc etc etc and it still doesnt look more than a year old. 198K miles and ticking!

SDL=

Started its life as a dealer demo. Nearly 10K miles later, it was titled to the first owner in central Massachusetts. It made its way into my family after their ownership.

SD=

Sold originally to an Armenian in Westford Mass, I believe. 88K miles of driving, the engine blew up. Rod failure, complete longblock replacement in summer of '95.

SE=

Hmmm,... Don't remember specifics, but I know it started life as a Massachusetts car. Then again,....Its not diesel.

Bought mine new in November, 1982 and have had it ever since. Have records of everything ever done to the car, including every tank of fuel it ever used.

Originally purchased by my grandfather in 1982 as a retirement gift. He sold his business, Union Distributing (of Girard, OH--a beer distributorship, won #1 in market share 2 years in row from Miller Brewing 1980 and 1981) and purchased this car in march of 82 as a gift. Price tag was ~35,000.

He died in 1991, my grandma took it until she died in 1996.
My dad took it from there and I have taken care of it ever since 2003.

My grandparents took the SD in for all its maintence checks. The maintence book is fully logged. We've been going to the same mechanic since the manuf. warranty expired.

I bought mine because it was owned by Jon Voight.
I have some pencils that he chewed on, as proof.
Also found a note to 'Daddy', signed; 'screw you, Angelina'

Bought in 2004 from a dealer, actulaly antique dealer, his Dad sold cars on the side. He bought it 3 months before, form the dealer who got it when the original family traded it in for a new car. Bought by an Texas A&M graduate, class of 1960 as a European delivery. Driven by his wife for 12 years, given to there oldest son to drive while he attended Texas A&M. Upon his graduation, it was given to the second son to drive while he was at Texas A&M. He drove it after school until it was traded in. I bought it an fixed it up for my daughter so she can drive it at Texas A&M, a Junior there.

I bought mine from a hick in Estacada. The PO was smoking a joint and told me that he needed to sell the car to get his girlfriend out of "some legal trouble." The only pieces of documentation that came with the car was the title and the registration which showed that he had purchased the car in february of 2004 and that he had been living in portland at the time. He had been running it on WVO he had gotten from a burger joint which he filtered by dumping it through a sheet hooked over a barrel (all unheated). On the plus side the car was running (and at the time quite well) and it was very, very cheap ($450). God only knows what its history was before that guy but judging from the interior it had passed through many hands.
