I will have my anti algae stuff by the end of the week. Between then and now I will stock up on a few filters. I will keep you guys updated on the injectors, but I probably will not know anything until a week or two from now.

I am not that concerned, but my father is going nuts about it. I understand its a 21 year old diesel. He thinks it should perform like a gas engine. He complains its slow and something is wrong with it. He has never owned a diesel, this is my second.

I think the fact that it even starts in sub zero temp within a few turns is a testament to my engines greatness.

That's a new one for me. There is no equivalent issue with MB diesels, AFAIK. It sounds to me like Ford has a design issue.

I bet even a new CDI would run like crap at those temps for the first few minutes.

Are you running a good synthetic oil? Do you plug it in?

I'd run 0w-40 or 5w-40 for those temps, cranking speed will increase greatly.

I believe there might be an extended glow relay but could be wrong. If so they invented it pretty much to eliminate this problem. I do not know if this applies to your car or not. Also as it is an older engine and is possible to have one cylinder a little lower in compression than the others (not bad) that cylinder might drop out after the glow plug cools down until residual heat builds up enough for it to fire regularily causing the miss. I would try to defeat it with the extended glow relay if available as it is the cheapest option probably. Remember if engine is firing off at -12 it is basically still pretty good.

Update.

Pulled injectors today and got them tested.

Injector 1: 5 bars below pressure [Supposed to be 135 bars]
Injector 2: Pisses Fuel
Injector 3: 3 bars low
Injector 4: 5 bars low
Injector 5: 3 bars low

I am getting all of my injectors rebuilt, I should have them back in tomorrow.
I will let you know how it runs with the new injectors in. And by new I mean rebuilt.

if the spray pattern is decent, I'd leave the 4 alone. Get the other one right. BEWARE getting rid of those injectors and replacing with 5 "rebuilt". depending on where you get it done you may be OK, or be really sorry you don't have the old injectors back.

Yeah whoever is doing the rebuilding make sure they test the new nozels. Finding them bad out of the box is common.
