Soot-laden tar would be an appropriate description. The stuff was 1/2" deep in places in the intake of SWMBOs 300D but I couldn't tell one smack of difference in performance after cleaning it all out.

you would need a pretty good restriction for that to happen, mine was not near bad enough.........I swapped a pre-EGR intake and exhaust manifold onto my W123. I did not feel like cleaning it out...that stuff is NASTY.....I got tired of clearing the banjo bolt out every month when it clogged.

This is why I want to relocate my EGR inlet to be after my oxidizer trap. That way all or at least most or even some of the carbon soot will be filtered out before it gets fed back into the intake manifold. I just don't know if its legal.

I had to pull the manifolds to replace a leaking exhaust gasket on the 300D...wouldn't have messed with it otherwise and actively chose not to on the TD.

When I read the topic title I thought we were talking about something of a pornographic nature.

Soot is nasty and a bad thing for our engines. Why does our government worry so much about Nox and not so much about C02. Lower one and the other goes up. Funny how that works.

Nox turns to Nitric acid in the atmosphere and causes acid rain.

I did it as a side job when installing a block heater....not having a lift to do that safely from underneith I pulled the manifolds and did it from above.

What a miserable job cleaning it is. Every time I wondered if that was worth it, I answered myself with "no."
