Rotors & Pads for 85 300SD-Best Brand?
 

I'm replacing pads and rotors on front of my 85 300SD. I know I hate my old pads (too much dust!!!). I'd like to hear what you guys think are the best pads and rotors (brands) and best place to buy them. I want quiet, minimal squealing, little dust, & long as possible service, but don't we all!

I'm running Pagid pads and ATE power disc rotors. Cost me about $125 total and well worth it. Smooth, quiet and no dust I can see.

On my other car I got cryogenic frozen rotors and Porterfield pads from -
for my mercedes.com and only have to clean the front wheels about once each year.

Does it really make a difference? How many sets of brake pads have you been through for one set of rotors?

I like pagid myself.

We use mainly Textar pads at my shop, however occasionally we will use Pagid or Jurid, but I prefer Textar. As for rotors, here are my experiences with different brands...

Balo: Have had problems with them recently with warping. Possibly a bad batch, generally good quality though (OEM).

Ate: Good quality, rarely have problems with warping (sometimes on W210 cars). (OEM)

Brembo: Good high-performance stuff, not so good OE replacement stuff. Not highly recommended.

IMHO: BEST rotors come right from the dealer. You pay more but it is worth every penny. I've started to get all of the rotors we use at the shop right from the dealer rather than through the OE aftermarket as I have been disappointed with the German OEM brands.

Orgainic? semi Metalic? does it matter
 

Organic? Semi metalic? what is the difference? does it matter? I'm getting ready to replace the pads, but have no idea what type I should get, or if it matters

Usually less dust means more wear and tear on the rotors..

Washing the wheels and changing the pads is cheaper than replacing rotors :)

I just put on different wheels and it solved my problems...16inch 8 hole wheels don't collect much dust and are SUPER easy to clean :)

I'm sorry, I must be retarded. Do the orgainic ones make more dust or less dust. Actually, tell me what you would use. I pretty much do whatever you guys say. There are too many choices for me try to investigate the pros and cons of each.

OK. Use Pagid, and Simply Green your wheels each week. Problem solved :)

I use PBR delux models on my 300SD and are satisfied with their wear and braking performance.

They are not eating up my rotors, dust minimally, and when I am taking the twisty downhill roads...I can really reef on them and they respond. The hotter these seem to get the better they work. :)


If brakes last even 10k with my driving..they must be good :D

I am expecting to get about 30-40k out of these PBR delux units I have on there now. :)

I bought those PBR Ceramic Ultimate pads off of fastlane in hopes of good stopping power and low amounts of brake dust. Well, I got good stopping power but they make a lot of black dust! I thought ceramic pads were supposed to put out invisible white dust or something. Id recommend them but Im sure the cheaper pads put out the same or less dust with similar stopping power.
