pete it was amusing when i took the westy to be checked. i just sat in the car while the tech looked, and looked and looked for the hood. it was pretty entertaining. no clue that a vw might have a rear mounted engine.

lets face it, not all the cleveland diesel institute grads can become ase mechanics with jaguar and rolls royce clusters. those who didn't make it become "emissions specialists"

yep. Some years ago now, I took a little vacation trip with a girl I was dating in my Corvair. I said I'd put her bags in the trunk. She stood behind the car with her bags waiting for me while I stood at the front. Finally she got angry and said "C'mon open this up (pointing at the back of the car)" I said "are you sure that's what you want?"..."Yes, hurry up" So I walked to the back of the car and opened up the hood for her....speechless for only a moment, "why is all of that in there, where am I going to put my bags?" "In the trunk of course" - so I picked up her bags, walked to the front of the car and put them in the trunk..

Well, at least it handled better with the bags up front.
